Breast cancer in the elderly

Programme
Co-Chairs: L. Biganzoli, IT - O.Pagani, CH

Breast cancer management in older patients can be challenging and requires calibrated and weighted risk-benefit decision making. Despite breast cancer being a common disease in older women, few evidence-based recommendations exist upon which oncologists can ground their clinical decisions. The course will handle breast cancer management in older patients from different perspectives, from the place older people have in our society to the characterization and needs of older patients according to different health professional specialties including patients’ advocates.
Specific diagnostic and treatment scenarios and controverses will be discussed and debated emphasizing the most relevant pending questions and new evidence. The overall aim is to provide a broad panorama on how to address the complexity of different disease settings in older patients and to help clinicians to understand and select the best available choices in routine clinical practice, when sitting in a multidisciplinary meeting or in front of the patient according.
